Grend31's Lair Readers Fresh-Opinion-Polling... thingy.
My posting style does not provide readers with ample opportunity to post replies to many of my entries. I am aware of this *completely* and am taking measures to try to create an entry now or then specifically for you, the reader. This would be one of those entries. It's time for an in-depth look at why people come to Grend31's Lair or even bother with these blog-thingies at all. I have created a series of questions for you to answer so I might get to know you a little better and be able to provide you with "That Better Blogging Experience" (which, coincidentally, is a lot like "That Fresh Feeling" I hear...thus the title).
Anyone who answers all questions in complete sentences with coherent answers will automatically be entered in a totally random drawing for a surprise prize of unknown value and origin which shall be stipulated in a much later post. If this doesn't bring you lurkers out of the crevices and shadows, I honestly don't know what will. I'm trying here, honestly..
On with the Uncomfortable Line of Questioning:
(You are now tied to a chair and the bright lights are now blinding your poor squinty eyes... you MUST answer these questions!)
1.) Why do you read at all? There are much easier ways to get your entertainment and information out there. Like skipping the information part and playing computer games for entertainment. Hey, it works for me. Just let me be in my little bubble world of bliss.
2.) Why do you read blogs? Most of them are little more than vapid excuses to describe yet another "bowel movement of life" told in an anecdotal and exaggerated fashion. Are we that bored with life and work that we need this as an escape? Aren't we escaping our hideous experiences by reading other people's descriptions of experiences they wish to escape? Does this make sense? Is it healthy for us?
3.) Why do you read my blog? It usually doesn't even cut the quality mentioned in the last question I wrote. Seriously. It doesn't. Go back and read. Some aren't even worthy of "passing gas of life".
4.) What qualities do your favorite blogs you frequent share? Are they filled with dysfunction? With tall tales? Vivid descriptions of wonder, delight, horror and malaise? What's in there that pulls you into The Read?
Ok, yer free to go. Unless yer into the bondage thing, in which case I'll be back in an hour. I'm hungry after all this questioning.

I'm only answering one:
I read your blog because you often leave provacative and compelling comments on other blogs and I keep hoping some of that entertaining thoughtfullness will show up here some day.
Bah, I don't spend that much time and energy on myself. Not worth it. :P
I'm actually a rather private person. All of the really good juicy stories I generally keep to myself or a close circle of friends. It's actually a bloody miracle I post anything about myself with my honed sense of paranoia with which I live. Most of these stories are very self-referential and would have little meaning to people who don't know me intimately in all my flaws and fury. That make any sense?
And the storyteller side of me has had other outlets through which I used to vent creativity. So I usually do not have an overflow buffer of yarns to spin and tales to tell, at least in this format. I'm happier with this reply than my first as I think it addresses what DC has found as a definite weakness in my blog.
I'm not answering all the questions with complete sentences, either, but I still expect a prize of some sort! Preferably something chocolate.
And Darkling_Child: Grend31 is perfectly capable of being entertaining and thoughtful, as you know, but he tends to find his "bubble of bliss" in places other than his blog.
I believe you Jess. I can't imagine you'd marry an intellectual moron.
I was just saying why I show up and read. That's all. :)
Thank you Alice, I've always been a bit of a fan of dark humor myself. Unfortunately for both of us, I'm a reformed nihilist, so I can't really tap that deep down ugly darkness anymore. Occasionally something will ooze out that's a bit on the edge, but overall it's really tough to be all doom and gloom when you are generally a happy person. And I know my blog suffers for it. More dark and grit makes for a good blog. I'm sorry, just don't have it in me like I did in my youth. ;)
Granted if something really awful happened to me, like Jesster leaves me for some hunky 20-something uber-dynamic corporate beefcake, I could probably find it again. But it would take a lot of dark room Skinny Puppy Joy Division Alcohol Stupored "me" time. Which frankly does not really hold much appeal to me anymore.
Plus it's a lot of work and I'd have to practice up at it a bit and I really have other things I should be spending my time on, like keeping Jesster distracted from all those uber-dynamic corporate beefcakes that mill about in the Skyway.
I don't really like reading that much. It takes me forever to read a book. The only time I read is usually on an airplane or in a waiting room at a doctor's office. So, Why do I read your blot or anyone's for that matter? Cuz it's not work. I usually do most of my blog reading at work. It's not that I don't have any work to do, I'm plenty busy, but I need a break once in a while. If I could play games at work, I would. That's what I do with most of my spare free time, which isn't really all that much these days.

I'm scared to answer just in case I do end up winning the prize.
Fear is the mindkiller MooCow. Step up. Be brave. What could I possibly give to you that I haven't given before? *snicker*
MooCow hasn't yet overcome his fear and provided his contribution. I have a quote for this specific occasion:
"You make me sad. Come along Patsy!"
Grend31- I read because I can. Imagination is better than crap on TV. I read blogs because other people are twisted just like me.
Your comments on other's blogs are hysterical. The MooCow questions are disturbing and creative. Your blog seems to be as well. All my current favorite blogs have a funny and intellectual slant to them. Yes, MooCow yours too!
"Disturbing MooCow". That sounds like a good blog title. Someone should write it. If I bring a smile to you A*, so be it. Honestly though, it's all mostly just random spew. Cleaning out the filters as it were. I hate getting gunked up.
