Join us..

...in the 21st Century, we beg of you.

Yes, life is should be viewed as a sanctity. I'll grant you that. But somewhere along the line you need to factor in personal freedom.

A person who uses a condom or birth control pills isn't necessarily evil. Honest. It's true. Every sperm isn't sacred. And some of them aren't even good. We fully understand your fond memories of the Dark Ages and Inquisitions and that it's tough to give up that kind of control over people, but it's just not gonna sell to the masses anymore. I'm telling you this for your own good. There are so many other fields upon which you should be fighting your battles: the field of War, the field of Poverty, the field of Social Justice. When you have those licked, you may have some actual credibility if you decide to poke your noses into the field of the Bedroom. Until then, notsomuch. And about this life is sacred thing. I really really really want to see you put your money where your mouth is and tell our president that the death penalty has to go and that war is killing. Over and over. Money where mouth thing...

Oh, and while I'm having a go at you, most organizations have terms of office for their officials so that you can avoid having to nasally force nutrition into your elderly leaders. You really want to avoid giving us non-followers reasons to come up with phrases like FrankenPope or RoboPope. Because we'll use them. We're not nice people that way. And a good number of us actually like and respect the Pope. I mean, he's a decent guy doing what he thinks is right, I can respect that despite the fact I don't agree with some of his ideas. Hey, here's a progressive concept for you: retirement (and not in that mafia way). The man is probably tired of you wheeling him around shindig to shindig and sticking tubes up his nose. Give it a rest. Let him rest, he's earned it I'd say.

I understand your dilemma. Having two Popes would be awkward at first. you wouldn't want to call him an ex-Pope. I know the ex-word is nasty in your circles. How about a Pre-Pope and a Post-Pope? Pope and Past-Pope? Gimme a break, I'm trying here...

The pope is a man. A man who is worshipped as if he were god. A man appointed to a position by other men. A position which is rooted in oppression and greed. A history of oppression and greed which has fostered more evil than good. Death to the pope. May there not be another.

I'm afraid the Papal office isn't going to dissapate any time in the near future. And in the grand scheme of things, they seem to be making some progress. I mean they aren't burning people at the stake anymore for witchcraft. Not that I'm aware of at least.

Yes, and the Nazi's aren't running concentration camps anymore... but they are still there.

Some things are so horrible that we cannot afford to dismantle them, bury them away or cover them up. We need them there as a reminder that we can sink to subhuman depths. I think that's why some of the concentration camps still exist.

As far as the Nazis still existing, I'm not sure anything other than time and evolution will take care of them. Hate is easily taught and apparently self-sustaining. It'll take some time before we as a species can conquer it I think.
